Vancouver, B.C., February 27, 2013: Desert Star Resources (TSX-V: DSR) (“Desert Star” or the “Company”) is pleased to announce that it has appointed Keith Henderson and Harry Cook to the Company’s technical advisory board.

“The vast experience and technical expertise provided by Mr. Cook and Mr. Henderson will greatly enhance the Company’s ability to identify, acquire and advance additional top-tier gold and copper exploration projects in the South-western United States”, stated Vince Sorace, President and CEO of Desert Star.

Keith Henderson, PGeo, M.Sc.
Mr. Henderson is a mining industry executive with 20 years’ experience in Africa, Europe, and the Americas. He was educated in Europe, graduating with B.Sc. (Hons) and M.Sc. in Geology and has extensive experience in multiple mineral deposit types and commodities including precious metals (gold, silver), base metals (copper, zinc, nickel) and bulk commodities such as metallurgical coal and iron ore. After several years in consulting roles, Keith worked with Anglo American Exploration in Europe and North America, leading a number of exploration projects and ultimately he was project manager for Anglo Coal as the company made its first entry into Canada. In 2007, Keith joined the Cardero Group and he is currently Executive Vice-President for Cardero Resource Corp., where he played a critical role in advancing the Pampa de Pongo through a positive scoping study and ultimate sale for US$100 million (2009). Most recently, Mr. Henderson was responsible for Cardero’s original investment in Coalhunter (2010), acquiring 49% of the company for $3.6 million. Keith is currently on the board of Providence Resources and Remo Resources.

Harry E. Cook, Ph.D., AIPG Certified Professional Geologist, USGS Emeritus
Dr. Cook is the founder, President and CEO of Carbonate Geology LLC, an international consulting company specializing in locating and developing predictive gold-host models and gold trends for Carlin-Type of gold-hosts in carbonate platform systems. He founded Carbonate Geology LLC, in 2005, after 30 years as a Senior Research Geologist with the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Here, he studied and conducted surface and subsurface work on Carbonate Platform-Slope-Basin rocks on a worldwide basis in the USA, Alberta Canada, the Yukon Territory in Canada, Mexico, the Former USSR, Central Asia and Western Europe.

Dr. Cook has consulted for major and junior gold companies such as Barrick, Newmont, U. S. Gold, Placer Dome, Queenstake, Evolving Gold, Timberline, Miranda, Maestro, Snowstorm, ATAC, Kaminak, Anthill, Almaden, Venture One Capital, Desert Star Resources and GEDEX. These studies have been conducted along the USA’s major gold trends in Nevada and Utah, including the Carlin Trend, Rain Trend, Bald Mountain Trend, Getchell/Turquoise/Twin Creeks Trend, Cortez-Tonkin Springs-Roberts Mountains Trends, Eureka Trend, Independence Trend and Long Canyon Trend. In Canada, Dr. Cook has conducted surface and subsurface studies along the Yukon Territory’s ATAC Rackla Trend and Anthill’s Einerson Lake Trend. In the Yukon Territory, he has developed a comprehensive stratigraphic column.

He is the author of 100+ research papers, books and professional talks on energy (oil and gas), mineral resources and carbonate sequence stratigraphy as a predictive exploration tool in Carlin-Type of gold deposits. Dr. Cook is a member of several geological societies and is past President of the international SEPM Society of Sedimentary Geology and recipient of various geological awards.

Dr. Cook obtained his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley and his BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Grant of Options

The Company also announces that it has granted to officers & directors of the Company incentive stock options to purchase an aggregate of 462,500 common shares at a per share price of $0.15 until February 27, 2018.
